Pepe ekeo Point Lookout

A scenic 4-mile drive on the Old Mamalahoa Highway north of Hilo through a lush tropical corridor with one-lane bridges, towering palms, and jungle vegetation. Kids love the narrow bridges and the feeling of driving through a tunnel of tropical plants. Pullover viewpoints offer ocean views from the cliff-top road. The drive passes through the small historic town of Pepe ekeo and the botanical garden entrance. It takes about 20 minutes and is a perfect low-effort scenic detour that feels like old Hawaii. The road reconnects to Highway 19 so you do not need to backtrack.

Frisco Central Park

A beautifully designed park in the heart of Frisco with a flowing brook, stone bridges, and the striking Cattle Drive bronze sculpture display. Kids love watching for turtles in the creek and climbing on the rocks near the water features. The park has open lawns, tree-lined paths, and a small waterfall that all work as natural portrait backdrops. It is one of the most photographed parks in the city for good reason and you will likely see other photographers there on any given evening.

Lake Mineral Wells State Trailway

A 20-mile converted rail trail connecting Weatherford to Mineral Wells that is one of the best family biking routes west of Fort Worth. The crushed granite surface is smooth enough for kids on training wheels and the gentle grade means no tough hills. The trail crosses several old railroad bridges that give kids a sense of adventure and the midpoint trailhead has restrooms and water. It is an excellent introduction to longer distance riding for kids building endurance.
