Allerton Garden (National Tropical Botanical Garden)

A spectacular botanical garden in a lush valley on Kauai south shore that was used as a filming location for Jurassic Park. The guided tour takes you through themed garden rooms with massive Moreton Bay fig trees, exotic tropical plants, and water features. Kids recognize the Jurassic Park trees immediately and the scale of the ancient trees is genuinely impressive. The valley setting with the stream running through it is beautiful. The McBryde Garden next door offers self-guided tours through a larger area. Reservations are required for both.

Garden of Eden Arboretum

A beautifully maintained 26-acre botanical garden along the Road to Hana with ocean views, rare tropical plants, and the lookout platform where the iconic Jurassic Park scene was filmed. The self-guided trail winds through labeled plant collections with peacocks and other birds roaming freely. The Puohokamoa Falls viewpoint within the garden is stunning. Kids enjoy the duck pond, the colorful peacocks, and looking for the filming locations. It is a peaceful break from the intense Road to Hana driving and the views from the overlook are excellent.

Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden

A stunning tropical garden on a dramatic ocean bluff north of Hilo with trails winding through over 2000 species of tropical plants and flowers. The garden descends into Onomea Bay with viewpoints of waterfalls, the ocean, and towering palms. Kids enjoy the boardwalk trail that passes a waterfall and crosses bridges over streams. The variety of exotic flowers, palms, and tropical plants is incredible. This was a filming location for Jurassic Park and you can see why. The beauty is overwhelming and photographs here look like they were taken in a fantasy world.

Kualoa Ranch

A 4000-acre private nature reserve on the windward coast that has been the backdrop for Jurassic Park, Lost, and dozens of other films. Kids lose their minds when they see the valley where the dinosaurs roamed. Activities include horseback riding, ATV tours, zip lines, a movie site tour, and a jungle expedition. The scenery is absolutely jaw-dropping with dramatic mountain ridges and the ocean in the background. Multiple tour packages let you mix activities for a full day. This is one of those experiences kids never forget.
