Garey Park

A 525-acre gem along the South San Gabriel River with well-marked trails ranging from flat strolls to more challenging inclines through classic Hill Country terrain. Catch-and-release fishing ponds give kids a patient and rewarding activity that does not require any experience. A splash pad and modern playground anchor the central area for younger children and the expansive picnic grounds under old trees make this an ideal all-day outing. The on-site dog park is a bonus for families bringing four-legged members along.

Bull Creek Greenbelt

A beloved Austin swimming hole where Bull Creek pools up among flat limestone slabs creating natural wading areas that are ideal for young kids. The water is shallow enough in most spots that toddlers can splash safely while older kids explore upstream through the rocky creek bed. Shaded picnic areas line the banks and parking fills up fast on hot weekends so arriving early is essential.

Eisenhower Park

Over six miles of trails and an observation tower with panoramic Hill Country views make this one of the best family hiking parks in San Antonio. The playground near the main entrance keeps younger kids occupied while older siblings hit the trails. Paved paths are suitable for strollers and the pavilions with grills make it easy to turn a hike into a full afternoon with a cookout.

Pedernales River Nature Park

A LCRA park along a beautiful stretch of the Pedernales River with swimming access, picnic areas, and a nature trail through riparian woodland. The shallow limestone pools along the riverbank are perfect for kids to wade and splash. It is a much less crowded alternative to Pedernales Falls State Park just downstream. Meadowmere Park

One of only two roped-off swim zones on Lake Grapevine, with a gently sloping sandy beach that makes it easy for little ones to wade in at their own pace. A big colorful playground sits right next to the beach so kids can bounce between sand and slides all day long. Lakefront camping is available for families who want to extend the fun overnight, and the picnic areas have grills and covered shelters for cooking out.
